STUDENT INFORMATION APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR OVERSEAS STUDY OPTION

GUANGXI TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

Please Note:
You must have completed at least Year 3 of the Full Time Bachelor Degree or Advanced Diploma course (check Student Unit Guide before applying).

Studies completed in China at institutions other than Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medical University will not be given credit towards the Bachelor degree course at ACNM.

You should apply three months prior to travel so that a Student Visa and a letter from the Guangxi University can be arranged.  If insufficient time is given to authorities in China, then a Tourist Visa can be issued, however it is better to travel on a Student Visa.

You must make your own arrangements for travel and ensure you arrive at Nanning on the Saturday or Sunday to start the study program on the date specified.  It is advisable to fax ahead to the Guangxi University providing your flight details eg time and date of arrival so that transport can be arranged (approximately 120 yuan each way – this cost can be split if you have multiple passengers).  Otherwise you can catch a cab for 80 yuan.

PROCEDURE

  1. Complete the two provided forms:
  • ACNM Internship Application Form 
  • Guangxi University Application form for overseas Candidates to study (please attach a passport photo and get a photocopy of this form at reception)
  1. Return these forms to reception and pay $400 AUS Registration Fee.  A receipt will be issued to you upon payment.
  2. Please provide copies of the Guangxi Application Form and receipt to Jiang Man.
  3. These forms will be processed by Admin and faxed to China
  4. You will receive a letter of acceptance from Nanning in a few weeks. A photocopy of this letter must be provided when applying to the Chinese Consulate for a visa.

Complete the Visa Application form at the consulate counter upon arrival.  It takes 3-5 days to process.  If you plan to travel outside of China during your stay, you require a double or multiple entry visa.

If traveling independently, on arrival at Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medical University, you should contact Foreign Affairs Student Liason personnel to arrange accommodation and final details of study and payment.

Study Option - Bachelor of Health Science (Acupuncture)

DURATION:       6 weeks
HOURS:               216 hours per study period, 36 hours per week, Hospital observations
SCHEDULE:      Acupuncture Clinics (4 hours in morning from 8am -12pm)
                              Lectures or Herbal Medicine clinics in the afternoon (2.30pm – 5.30pm)
CREDIT:             You will receive credits for four subjects – ACL8, 9, 10, APCW

CONTENT:
Acupuncture         includes needling techniques, differential diagnosis, tongue and pulse diagnosis, other topics based on the needs of the students
Herbal Medicine   Indications for use of common formulas, pharmacy observation, differential diagnosis, tongue and pulse diagnosis
Theory                   TCM Classics, Advanced Needling techniques, Time Acupuncture and Pain Management techniques
Lectures                Case study discussion, Stems and Branches, Special interests eg Internal Medicine, orthopedics, Paediatrics, Dermatology, Gynaecology, Cancer, Tuina

Bring your bank receipt with you to China to confirm payment of tuition fees.
Your local bank will charge about $30 transfer fee. 
Ask your bank if they use a third party bank to transfer money to China as this can incur a further charge of about US$35. 
National Australia Bank does not charge this second fee.

Accomodation:                 80 yuan per day x number of days
(this is paid to the Accomodation department in RMB upon arrival in Nanning)

Airport transfer                 Arranged prior to departure and pay driver upon arrival or 80 yuan for taxi

EXTRA COSTS TO BUDGET FOR:

Upon arrival at campus, you need to pay 75 yuan for:

    • lab coat (you cannot attend clinic with out this coat)
    • Identification badge
    • Certificate upon completion of course
    • Provide three photos

It will cost about $6000 inclusive for flight, accommodation, spending money, tuition etc.
Meals – about 50 yuan per day
Buses – 1.2 yuan each way (20 minute ride) OR
Taxi – about 12 yuan each way (10 minutes)
Broadband internet in your room – 30 yuan per month

You need to find your own transport to and from clinic each day.  You will visit Hospital One and Hospital Two during your rotations.

You will need:

    • notepad & pen, packets of tissue (no toilet paper), music, something to read, stuff for colds, diarrhea
    • There is a TV in your room

There are grocery stores, food stalls and ATM machines on campus

Helpful hint

Bring a notepad and ask someone to write in Mandarin all your essentials
Mandarin phrasebook if you do not speak chinese

April – 21 degrees,            May – 26 degrees,                   June – 27 degrees,
July – 28 degrees,             August – 27 degrees,              Sept – 26 degrees
Oct – 23 degrees               Nov – 18 degrees                    Dec – 10 degrees
Best time to visit Nanning is : Mar / Apr (some rain), May/Jun/Jul and Oct/Nov.
August is too hot and December is too cold.
