Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment for Low Back Pain
Overview:
Invasion of cold and/or damp - As with the invasion of wind-cold in the neck, this is a generalised description and overlaps with many presentations of the other acute syndromes described.
TCM Description:
Stagnation of qi and blood in low back (Bladder and Du meridians) caused by an invasion of cold and/or damp.
Signs and Symptoms:
- Pain - in the lower back, can radiate into buttocks and legs.
- A heavy sensation in the low back.
- Restricted range of movement.
- A history of exposure to cold/damp.
Treatment:
- Disperse the cold and damp.
- Invigorate the circulation of qi in the Bladder meridian.
- Acupuncture - Local points - Yaoyangguan (DU3), Dachangshu (UB25).
Acupuncture - Distal points - Feiyang (UB58), Weizhong (UB40), Fengfu (DU16).
- Massage - Deep and invigorating.
- Moxa - Over Shenshu (UB23) and Yaoyangguan (DU3).
