UB40 (Urinary Bladder 40) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Weizhong
English Name: Crease Center

Location: At the midpoint of the transverse crease of the popliteal fossa, between the tendons of biceps femoris and semitendinosous muscles. Locate the point with patient in prone position or with flexed knee.


Lower He-Sea point of Bladder channel, 5th of Ma Dan Yang's 12 Stars.


Drains Summer-Heat, clears Heat and toxin from the blood, benefits the low back and knees, relaxes the tendons, dispels Wind-Damp (in Bi syndrome).

Primary Indications:

Vomiting and diarrhea, abdominal pain, low back pain.

Secondary Indications:

Wei and Bi syndromes of lower limbs (Bi syndrome of knee, Bi syndrome of hip, paralysis of lower limbs).

Tertiary Indications:

Hemiplegia, sciatica, spasms of gastrocnemius, skin disorders, erysipelas, leprosy, loss of consciousness, tidal fever, night sweats, epistaxis.

Other Indications:

Sore throat, throat disoders, aching among lower teeth, hair loss, torticollis, seizures, lower abdomen hard, tympanites, incontinence of urine, cystitis.
