UB18 (Urinary Bladder 18) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Ganshu
English Name: Liver Shu

Location: 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the ninth thoracic vertebra.


Back-Shu point for the Liver.


Benefits the Liver and Gall Bladder, spreads stagnant Liver Qi, nourishes Ying and blood, clears Damp-Heat from the Liver and Gall Bladder, clears the vision, calms the Shen.

Primary Indications:

Spitting blood, pain in ribs and sides, visual dizziness.

Secondary Indications:


Tertiary Indications:

Jaundice, epistaxis, red eyes, night blindness, epilepsy, back pain, gastric diseases, eye diseases, cough with rib/chest pain, painful masses in chest and abdomen.

Other Indications:

Bitter taste in mouth, headache, cerebral hemorrhage, scrofula, insomnia, shortness of breath, sensation of fullness, diabetes, lower abdominal pain, irregular menstruation, genital disoders, lack of energy, Yang or Yin disease.
