UB1 (Urinary Bladder 1) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Jingming
English Name: Bright Eyes

Location: 0.1 cun above the inner canthus of the eye (located with eyes closed).

Precautions: Care with needling depth and avoidance of twisting, thrusting and lifting of the needle are very important to avoid black eye, moxibustion contraindicated.


Point of intersection of Bladder channel with Yangqiaomai, Yinqiaomai, Stomach channel, Small Intestine channel (also sanjiao channel according to some sources)


Dispels wind, clears heat, clears the vision and nourishes water (promotes lacrimation).

Primary Indications:

Redness / swelling and pain of eye, itching of eyes, excessive lacrimation, night blindness, color blindness, myopia, nebula, visual dizziness, atrophy of optic nerve, other eye disorders.

Tertiary Indications:

Headache, fear of cold.

Other Indications:

Infantile convulsions, facial nerve paralysis, pain in eye with lacrimation on exposure to wind in emaciated children with yellow skin and hard distended abdomen.
