REN9 (Conception Vessel 9) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Shuifen
English Name: Water Divisions/Distribution/Part

Precautions: Contraindicated to needle in ascites; moxibustion should be used instead, contraindicated for moxibustion during pregnancy.

Location: In the midline of the epigastrium, 1 cun above the umbilicus.

Functions:

Governs water balance in the body.

Primary Indications:

Borborygmus, ascites.

Tertiary Indications:

Urinary retention, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain.

Other Indications:

Sudden epistaxis, dysuria, nephritis, hernia, chronic gastric cancer, enteritis, diarrhoea, cholera, chronic lesions of the intestines, stiffness and contracture of the renal region and the vertebral column, sudden subsidence of anterior fontanelle in children, rectal prolapse.
