REN12 (Conception Vessel 12) - Acupuncture Point Information

Chinese Name: Zhongwan
English Name: Middle of Epigastrium

Location: In the midline of the epigastrium, 4 cun above the umbilicus


Front-Mu point of the Stomach, one of the Bahui (Eight Meetings) for the Fu.


Regulates the Stomach Qi, transforms and supresses rebellious Qi, reinforces the Spleen, relieves food retention, eliminates Dampness.

Primary Indications:

Stomach pain, abdominal distension, acid regurgitation, vomiting, Spleen and Stomach Xu.

Tertiary Indications:

Diarrhoea, dysentry, jaundice, indigestion, anorexia, gastric ulcer, gastric haemorrhage, constipation, acute and chronic gastritis, gastric spasms, gastric cancer.

Other Indications:

Stool with undigested food, borborygmus, prolapsed stomach, acute intestinal obstruction, acute and chronic enteritis, heart pain, "Nine types of heart pain", hiccough, hyperacidity, uterine diseases, hypertension, neuraesthenia, mental diseases, madness, spitting blood related to consumptive illnesses, fever from epidemic diseases, malaria with diarrhoea and abdominal pain, pains due to disorders of energy, yellowish complexion (without jaundice), pain in the spleen, discomfort in the diaphragm, dyspnoea, cholera with vomiting/nausea and diarrhoea, nausea, renal inflammation.
